Arizona and California:  Identifying the Aftermarket Opportunities (March 2007)
Arizona and California are both significant U.S. states in terms of economic strength, size of the population, vehicles in operation and the automotive aftermarket. While California is ranked first compared to all other states in these areas, Arizona is showing great expansion and is one of the key growth areas in the United States.

This report is divided into two main sections based on the state and each follows a similar structure. An overview of the state is followed by an analysis of vehicle registrations. The size and structure of the state's automotive aftermarket is then analyzed. The section concludes with a look at the supply side characteristics of the respective state's aftermarket. This completes the analysis of Arizona, while California's greenhouse gas emission reduction initiatives are also considered.

  • To contribute to a discussion on key human resource issues in the Canadian automotive sector.

The study is forward looking in order to assist the industry to create a common perspective of the future; to understand the existing and emerging human resource issues; and to establish a means of mitigating anticipated challenges while building on the strengths of the sector.

Consumer Research
Consumers are asked about their purchases during the previous calendar month.  Respondents report details about the type and nature of their purchases in a survey administered via the Internet. The results provide AIA members with a better understanding, nationally and regionally, of key consumer decisions such as:

  • Automotive products purchased
  • Automotive services purchased
  • Mode of installation - DIY/DIFM
  • Category, brand and retailer unit purchase share trends
  • Consumer and vehicle demographics
  • Quantity purchased
  • Reasons for brand purchased/service Channel selection
  • Satisfaction levels and future purchase intent

Understanding the motivators behind consumer's behaviour will help the whole aftermarket make better, more informed decisions. 2005 marked the first year that AIA provided consumer data to all members. Continuation of this area of research is part of our ongoing commitment to be the Voice and the Resource for the automotive aftermarket.
