5, members from across the country gathered on Parliament Hill\u00a0for our annual Hill\u00a0Day, engaging\u00a0Members of Parliament (MPs), senators, and senior government officials to advance strong, practical Right to Repair solutions for Canada\u2019s auto care sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following a pivotal year of progress in\u00a02025,\u00a0from\u00a0provincial regulatory milestones to heightened national awareness\u2014AIA Canada\u2019s advocacy efforts are now focused on securing a\u00a0national Right to Repair framework\u00a0that works for independent repair businesses and Canadian drivers alike.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 Canada\u2019s flagship grassroots advocacy event, where members from across the country come together in Ottawa to directly engage policymakers on issues that matter most to the auto care sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants meet one-on-one with MPs and staff,\u00a0participate\u00a0in roundtable discussions, and amplify their voices through media engagement\u2014giving government decision-makers a first-hand look at the challenges and opportunities facing independent repairers today.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery guarantees access to vehicle repair data, tools, and parts, enabling competition, choice, and fair prices for consumers and small businesses.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AIA Canada\u2019s presence on Parliament Hill is a critical part of our government relations and advocacy strategy, ensuring that policymakers hear directly from businesses on the front lines of Canada\u2019s repair economy. As regulators and legislators shape the future of automotive repair access, we are there to:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make the case for fair competition and consumer choice across Canada.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Support policies that strengthen small businesses in communities from Vancouver to Halifax.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Highlight the real economic impact of\u00a0Right to\u00a0Repair for local jobs and affordability for Canadians.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Push for federal legislation that complements provincial efforts, avoiding\u00a0a patchwork\u00a0of inconsistent rules.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These conversations are more important now than ever. As decisions on broader digital access, trade, and economic policy unfold in 2026, the auto care sector needs certainty and fairness to innovate and grow.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Unlocking access<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On this Hill Day, MNP released a report,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.righttorepair.ca\/unlockingaccess\/\" title=\"\">Unlocking\u00a0access: Why Right to Repair matters for every vehicle owner<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>showing\u00a0that without federal action, affordability, consumer choice, and jobs across the auto care sector are at risk.\u00a0This report includes in-depth analysis of economic\u00a0insights and case studies,\u00a0showcasing\u00a0the need for federal legislation. Insights include, but are not limited to, the following:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Drivers save considerably when services are performed at independent shops.\u00a0Up to 30 per cent or $500 on common repairs and up to 80 per cent for\u00a0labour-heavy or complex repairs (when aftermarket parts are used).\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Access to vehicle repair data significantly\u00a0impacts\u00a0independent shops\u2019 ability to provide\u00a0timely\u00a0services. If every independent shop lost just one repair per week due to an inability to access vehicle repair data, the total annual profit loss could reach $336 million nationally for independents;\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Drivers in rural areas, including operators of emergency fleet vehicles, face disproportionately higher costs for services. Key efforts included federal election engagement through AutoCareVotes.ca, ongoing collaboration with provincial and international partners, and support for members navigating Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s new Right to Repair regulations.
