Inspections and Emissions Programs

Vehicle-inspectionIt is a known fact that  the new vehicles on the market are more efficient than ever before; however, according to AIA’ s 2012 Outlook Study, the average Canadian vehicle is 9.3 years old and is therefore not equipped with the latest emissions control technologies. Furthermore, the 2013 Canadian Automotive Aftermarket Demand Study, produced for AIA by DesRosiers Automotive Consultants Inc., determined that Canadians are under-spending on their vehicles by an average $621 per year.

The fact that most Canadian vehicles are in their prime maintenance years, but aren’t being maintained as per manufacturer recommendations indicates that there is still a need for provincial emissions and inspection programs to ensure optimal efficiency. Many of these programs could even be improved by adding a safety inspection to the existing tests to ensure that only the safest vehicles are on Canada’s roads.

AIA believes that the automotive aftermarket companies must be good corporate citizens and do whatever is reasonably possible to protect the environment. In addition to adhering to government regulations and legislation on the environment, AIA also encourages consumers to properly maintain their vehicle through preventative car care - this is accomplished through AIA's Be Car Care Aware program.
