The Grand Rendez-Vous: Geopolitics, economics, and the future of industry
On May 28, the AIA Canada Quebec Division hosted the very first edition of the Grand Rendez-Vous at the prestigious Pointe-à-Callière Museum, in the heart of Old Montreal.
Redesigned in a more dynamic and immersive format, this charitable event brought together nearly one hundred automotive aftermarket professionals from across Quebec for an evening focused on networking, discussion, and reflection on the issues shaping our industry.
The evening began at 5:30 p.m. with registration, followed by a welcome cocktail that allowed guests to reconnect in the museum’s unique and warm atmosphere.
This iconic venue, combining heritage, architecture, and modernity, provided an exceptional setting that encouraged meetings and discussions among colleagues, partners, and industry leaders.
At 6:15 p.m., the conference opened with welcoming remarks from Emily Chung, President and Chief Executive Officer of AIA Canada:
“AIA Canada holds a unique position in bringing together all sectors of the Canadian automotive aftermarket. By working together, we can strengthen our voice, support the development of future talent, and provide our members with the knowledge they need to adapt to the rapid evolution of our industry.”
Mathieu Côté, President of the AIA Canada Quebec Division, then shared several significant achievements accomplished over the past year.
The many meetings and consultations conducted this year demonstrate our commitment to ensuring that the voice of the automotive aftermarket is heard in Quebec. We are also continuing our efforts to support our members on key issues, notably through the webinar Right to Repair: Regulatory Impacts and Complaint Procedures, which will take place on June 17 at 12:00 p.m. and will address the right to repair as well as the continuous improvement of the resources available to members.
Participants then attended the keynote presentation entitled “The Dangerous Decade,” delivered by journalist, geopolitical analyst, and former international correspondent Jean-François Lépine.
Through a presentation that was both engaging and insightful, Jean-François Lépine shared his perspective on the major global upheavals currently reshaping the international economic and political landscape. From geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions to evolving trade relationships and global economic impacts, the presentation enabled participants to gain a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities awaiting our industry in the years ahead.
“In the face of the upheavals redefining our world, our greatest risk would be inaction. We must have the courage to act, invest in the future, and reclaim the leadership needed to navigate this decade of transformation.” — Jean-François Lépine
Recognized for the relevance of his analysis and the quality of his presentations, Jean-François Lépine’s keynote sparked numerous reflections and discussions among attendees.
The event was hosted by Alexandre Lajeunesse, Master of Ceremonies and First Vice-President of the AIA Canada Quebec Division, who skillfully concluded the discussion by drawing a parallel with AIA Canada, where collaboration also plays a central role.
“We operate in a world where differences and challenges are numerous. More than ever, our industry must build bridges between manufacturers, distributors, repair facilities, and all stakeholders throughout the value chain. AIA Canada’s purpose is precisely to bring people together around common issues, such as the right to repair, while respecting each individual’s realities and values.” — Alexandre Lajeunesse, First Vice-President, AIA Canada Quebec Division
The evening continued until 9:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception, food stations, and self-guided access to the Pointe-à-Callière Museum, giving participants the opportunity to continue their conversations in a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere.
Beyond networking and knowledge sharing, the Grand Rendez-Vous also had an important philanthropic component. A portion of ticket sales will be donated to the AIA High Fives for Kids Foundation, which supports local initiatives that showcase our industry while making a tangible difference in the lives of young people in our communities.
The AIA Canada Quebec Division extends its sincere thanks to all participants, partners, speakers, and sponsors who contributed to the success of this memorable evening. Check out our Facebook photo album!
