AIA Canada’s June 2022 advocacy efforts

On May 13, AIA Canada testified before the Standing Committee on Industry and Technology as part of the committee’s study on small and medium-sized businesses. AIA Canada President, Jean-François Champagne, and Fix Network World President and CEO, Steve Leal, presented the aftermarket’s concerns on the issues of competition, the right to repair, and labour shortages.

Later in May, AIA Canada met with the Prime Minister’s Office. During the conversation, we stressed that without a competitive and capable aftermarket, desired targets for electric vehicle adoption are unlikely to be met.

Right to repair petition

On the right to repair, the petition that AIA Canada initiated in the House of Commons calling for legislation, closed on June 3. It received over 1700 signatures, well beyond the 500 needed to be presented in the House of Commons and for the government to table a response.

We will continue to keep members informed on the progress of the petition.
