Member Advisory: Skills Training Resources for AIA Members in British Columbia

In October 2014, members and staff of the Automotive Industries Association (AIA) of Canada held meetings with a number of elected officials and public servants in Victoria, B.C. as part of a provincial government relations day. These meetings covered a number of issues of concern to the local membership, including winter tire regulations and skilled labour shortages, and represented an important step in AIA’s engagement with the B.C. Government.

During a meeting with the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training, AIA asked ministry representatives if they could provide the association with a document highlighting government grants, tools, and resources available to small and medium-sized businesses in the automotive sector. In response to this request, the ministry has created a Skills Training Toolbox with detailed information on:

  • pertinent contact information,

  • resources for employers,

  • available tax credits and grants,

  • private training providers, and

  • trade profiles.

The Skills Training Toolbox can be downloaded for free here. AIA members in B.C. are encouraged to consult the document to learn about the services and resources available to them.
