Right to Repair in Quebec: Key takeaways from our webinar

June 25, 2026

On June 17, 2026, AIA Canada hosted a webinar on Quebec’s Right to Repair Regulation, which came into force on October 5, 2025. Bringing together industry representatives and officials from the Office de la protection du consommateur (OPC), the session aimed to help businesses better understand the regulation’s impact, their responsibilities, and the complaint reporting process established under the legislative framework.

The webinar was moderated by Élisabeth Lambert, President of Pièces d’Auto Joliette, Immediate Past Chair of AIA Canada’s Quebec Division and member of AIA Canada’s National Board of Directors, and David Boudeweel-Lefebvre, President of Boudeweel Public Affairs. Participants also benefited from the expertise of Charles Tanguay and Julie Couture from the OPC.

Understanding the impact of Right to Repair

Participants gained practical insights into the objectives of the regulation and its implications for the automotive industry. Discussions focused on manufacturers and retailers’ obligations, access to the tools and data required to repair vehicles, and the expected benefits for consumers and the automotive aftermarket.

Speakers also highlighted AIA Canada’s role in the efforts that led to the adoption and implementation of the regulation.

The role of the Office de la protection du consommateur

OPC representatives explained their role in enforcing the regulation, the types of situations that may warrant intervention, and the remedies available to businesses.
