AIA Canada’s March 2022 advocacy efforts
During the month of March, AIA Canada participated in two important events. The first event was the Milton/Halton Region Innovation roundtable held on March 16. The event was hosted by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development. In attendance was AIA Canada member Daryll O’Keefe of Fix Automotive Network. Daryll addressed the Minister, sharing information about his organization’s training and development facility in Milton capable of training the industry’s workforce on the latest equipment, supplies and processes. He also touched on the right to repair; the Minister took note, agreeing that innovation cannot become a detriment to the repair industry.
On March 25, AIA Canada participated in a conference attended by the Minister of Employment and Social Development Canada. The Minister discussed programs and initiatives to address the labour shortage, support workforce development and modernize the Employment Insurance program. The Minister suggested that promoting the skilled trades as a first choice among youth and making it easier for employers to access labour through the Temporary Foreign Workers program are part of the solution to resolve current labour issues.
