Employers: federal government seeking feedback on the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy
May 29, 2020
The Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) was introduced in response to COVID-19 to help employers protect employee jobs and to rehire employees. Through the subsidy program, employers who have been hard-hit by the pandemic, are eligible to receive 75% of an employee’s wages, up to $847 / week.
The federal Department of Finance is now seeking feedback from organizations, including businesses, on potential changes to the program, with a view to maximize employment and encourage growth.
AIA Canada members expressed significant interest in the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy when it was announced and are encouraged by representatives at Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada to provide feedback.
