Following in the Family’s Footsteps: Spotlight on Zakari Krieger

April 16, 2019

Being part of a family business can be a lot of pressure on a young professional. But for Zakari Krieger, continuing the legacy of the business was what drew him to the automotive aftermarket. Through the Young Professionals in the Aftermarket (YPA) Committee, Zakari hopes to inspire those without a family connection to take a look at the opportunities the industry offers.

Zakari Krieger

Director, Business Operations

Company: Barton Auto Parts Limited

Years in the Automotive Aftermarket Industry: 5

Did you know you wanted to work in the automotive aftermarket?

Growing up, automotive specifically was not a passion of mine. I had always seen a path into business and finance. In University I focused a bulk of my studies on Economics. Today economics and financial markets remain a passion and hobby of mine.

A family business is something that requires succession to maintain the direction and strength of the firm. For me, being able to continue the family legacy of the business drew me into the automotive aftermarket. It is rewarding to be able to come to work, put your mark on a family legacy, and see the effects your passion and hard work are creating.

What advice would you give someone who is just starting out or is looking to transition into the industry?

The industry requires young leaders with the ability to understand business and the fundamentals of automotive. Some good advice is to pick an area of passion and specialize in that.

What does the YPA Committee mean to you and what would you like to see the committee achieve in the future?

For me it is important to be a part of the YPA Committee because of the relationships. It is a great platform for young people like myself, to build friendships and connections. The automotive industry and aftermarket in particular, is not usually given much thought to by young people. It is important for us, the young leaders to do what we can to continue to build and strengthen the future of our industry.
