Learning and succeeding in the auto care industry: Debi McCarthy

March 5, 2024

As part of International Women’s Day 2024, AIA Canada is recognizing women from across the auto care industry, highlighting their experiences, achievements, and success in their careers. Throughout her career, Debi McCarthy has championed women in the industry, promoted inclusivity, and aims to show why working in the auto care industry is so rewarding.

Thirty-five years into her career, Debi ventured into the automotive industry, joining Fix Network as the global vice president of human resources (HR).

“It has been a long and fulfilling road,” says McCarthy. “Each step has further shaped my understanding and passion for HR.”

Debi has had a diverse career path, spanning various industries, such as finance, sales, and operations. However, it was in HR that she found her true calling. Despite the challenges of juggling full time work and raising four young children, she continued to pursue her certification in HR—a decision she has never regretted.

“Joining Fix Network was a leap into the unknown; I had no prior experience in the automotive industry. However, after speaking with industry leaders and understanding its dynamic nature, I was inspired.” says McCarthy.

“The automotive sector, with its blend of innovation, creativity, and technical challenges, resonated with my interests and ambitions.”

Debi recognizes that the automotive industry has traditionally been male dominated, but that only adds to her motivation and hunger for success.

“I take pride in bringing a unique perspective to the table. I believe that diversity in thought and experience is crucial for driving forward-thinking solutions. Challenging stereotypes and paving the way for future generations of women in the automotive industry is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.” says McCarthy.

“I am fortunate to be part of an organization that values innovation, change and inclusivity. At Fix Network, everyone, regardless of gender or background, can contribute their talents and authentically be themselves. This culture of openness and forward thinking is key to our success as an organization.”
